How many tiles do I need?
Multiply length by width for each rectangular area, add the areas together, and include your waste allowance. Divide by the square-foot coverage of a sheet, box, or piece (or use square feet for tiles sold by area), then round up to a whole selling unit.
How much extra tile should I buy?
This calculator starts with 10% for a straight layout and 15% for diagonal or herringbone. These are planning allowances; room shape, tile size, and your installer’s method may call for more.
What if my room isn’t a rectangle?
Divide your space into non-overlapping rectangles and use “Add another area” for each one. Measure each section separately so you don’t count the same space twice.
Is coverage the same as tile dimensions?
No. A tile’s length and width do not always tell you how much one purchase covers. A box can contain several pieces, while mosaics can be sold by the sheet. We need verified coverage for the exact option you choose.
What about grout, adhesive, and trim?
This estimates tile only. Grout spacing and installation patterns can affect the finished layout; check the manufacturer’s coverage and your installer’s recommendations. Grout, adhesive, trim, and labor are separate.
